MEET THE AUTHOR
Hi ! My name is Hélène Mazière, I am the author and illustrator of The Blue Biologist. I always had a passion for the ocean, for science, and I always doodled on the side of my notebooks at school.
After getting a degree in Environmental Engineering Science in the countryside of France, I moved south to the beautiful Mediterranean coast to do my MSc in Marine Biology.
Since then, my career as a marine biologist has been a succession of amazing adventures: from growing corals in Indonesia to tagging whale sharks in the Maldives and studying cetaceans in the Mediterranean sea, I've been able to observe and learn so much about a great variety of species and ecosystems.
I soon realized the jobs I enjoyed the most were the ones where scientific work was combined with educational and outreach programs. I strongly believe that conducting science and research is just as important as public education, as it creates a synergy between scientists and citizens towards a common goal : protecting our oceans.
As I carried on educational projects, it appeared that my drawings and comics were a great way to interact and engage with the public about marine science, especially with children.
It's during the covid lockdown that I decided to take it to the next step and create The Blue Biologist, a place where I can share my knowledge and experience whilst engaging my readers about ocean science and conservation.
